George Lucas is co-winner of the 2024 John N. Findlay Book Prize in Metaphysics

The Ordering of Time takes home the MSA's annual prize for the best work in metaphysics

George Lucas has won the John N. Findlay Book Prize in Metaphysics for The Ordering of Time: Meditations on the History of Philosophy.

Each year, the Metaphysical Society of America awards the John N. Findlay Book Prize to 'the best work of metaphysics' published in the past four years. We are delighted to share the news that, in 2024,The Ordering of Time is one of the books to which they chose to award the prize.

More on the book:

The Ordering of Time: Meditations on the History of Philosophy explores how we can think with – as opposed to thinking about – the history of philosophy. It outlines a new historico-philosophical methodology termed reflective historical engagement and employs this methodology in forging dramatic and moving reinterpretations of the recent history of philosophy.

'An engaging and masterful interpretation of the history of Western philosophy, The Ordering of Time is much more than that. Profoundly ethical, this is a book for our times. George Lucas shows how to care about the past — its injustice as well as its grandeur and everyday facticity — so that we recover and respect insights that make life worth living and presenting to those who follow after us.'  – John K. Roth, Edward J. Sexton Professor of Philosophy, Claremont McKenna College
