Accessible format requests
Providing access to content for all our readers is a priority for EUP. We are guided by the WCAG 2.2 Level AA standard in compliance with the European Accessibility Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) including Title II. All books published on or following 28th June, 2025 are available as an accessible ePub file which has passed Ace by DAISY validation and meets the following accessibility principles:
- Page and structural navigation
- Sufficient colour contrast
- Screen-reader compatible
- Tables and/or maths equations HTML tagged
Accessible Ebooks on the Edinburgh University Press website
Ebooks can be accessed in several different ways. PDF files are delivered as standalone files to be used in screen readers or other accessible programmes. We do not add any accessibility features to our PDF files, so we encourage readers with print disabilities to choose the ePub format, which is delivered via Glassboxx.
Glassboxx supports the following accessibility features:
- Contrast adjustment
- Font size and typeface changes
- Text-to-voice conversion
If you require help with the Edinburgh University Press apps or browser reader, please refer to the Glassboxx Reader Help guides.
Alternative formats
We work with the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) Bookshare programme to provide alternative formats to individual students in the UK with print disabilities. To request an alternative format, please visit the Bookshare website.
Contact
If you have a request for a fully accessible ePub 3 file published prior to 28th June, 2025, please email accessibility@eup.ed.ac.uk. Our work around accessible content is ongoing. We welcome your feedback.
