EUP Enters New Distribution Partnership with De Gruyter

Edinburgh University Press has signed an international distribution agreement with De Gruyter Publishing, a global leader in HSS publications, to host and distribute more than 3,000 titles of outstanding editorial value for global dissemination through degruyter.com.

Edinburgh University Press has signed an international distribution agreement with De Gruyter Publishing, a global leader in HSS publications, to host and distribute more than 3,000 titles of outstanding editorial value for global dissemination through degruyter.com. Per this agreement, De Gruyter will also possess the non-exclusive worldwide license to distribute the press’s frontlist and backlist collections.

This transatlantic partnership makes EUP the first university press in the United Kingdom to join 17 other university presses in the University Press Library (UPL), an eBook acquisition model that is focused on complete digital output from publisher partners at the collection-level with no DRM.

Founded in 1949 in Scotland, EUP is the premier scholarly publisher of academic books and journals and one of the leading university presses in the UK. The press publishes more than 200 titles every year in topics of coveted interest, including Classics & Ancient History, Film, Media & Cultural Studies, History, Islamic & Middle Eastern Studies, Language & Linguistics, Law, Literary Studies, Philosophy, Politics, and Scottish Studies.

The UPL has seen phenomenal success in the Americas since its launch in 2019. By adding a European press to the mix, De Gruyter is making available non-American university press titles of relevance not only regionally but globally, enabling libraries to purchase must-have content that may otherwise be difficult to obtain.

“We are delighted to be joining De Gruyter’s Publisher Partner Program, seeing this as a significant new partnership for EUP. De Gruyter’s collaborative approach is a great fit with our ethos, and we are excited to work together to promote our digital book content to research libraries,” says Nicola Ramsey, Chief Executive Officer at EUP.

“The Publisher Partner Program prides itself in providing our users with diversity in scholarly studies. We are constantly seeking ways to expand our English language content in international studies and are incredibly excited to be able to provide that through this partnership. The prestigious and historic content from EUP doesn’t just complement the UPL collections – it elevates it,” says Steve Fallon, VP, Americas and Strategic Partnerships at De Gruyter.

“EUP is the first partner press we are signing with our established CARE standards that focuses on getting partner content online swiftly, through thorough title list management and metadata quality assurance. This will provide users with appropriate tools to discover and access the rich EUP library efficiently,” says Saskia Wenzel, Senior Manager Publisher Partnerships at De Gruyter.
