EUP authors announced as runners-up at the BAFTSS Awards

James Chapman, author of 'The Money Behind the Screen' is the runner-up for best monograph and Dalila Missero, author of 'Women, Feminism and Italian Cinema' is the runner-up for best first monograph.

We are delighted to share the news that two of our film authors were announced as runners-up at the BAFTSS awards in the Best Monograph and Best First Monograph.

  • Best Monograph

James Chapman, author of The Money Behind the Screen: A History of British Film Finance, 1945-1985

What the judges had to say: The Money Behind the Screen is a staggering achievement. Chapman presents the most rigorous history to date of post-war film finance in Britain. Bulging with primary research, and written in a lucid, accessible, style, this is a landmark volume in British screen studies and one that stands to be a referred to by scholars for years to come."

  • Best First Monograph

Dalila Missero, author of Women, Feminism and Italian Cinema Archives from a Film Culture

What the judges had to say: This is a comprehensive and engaging study of a pivotal period in Italian cinema, drawing on an impressive range of archival research. The book adopts an intersectional approach to film, from production to consumption, while maintaining a thought-provoking, self-reflective perspective which establishes a dialogue between feminist film theory and film history. Drawing on Gramscian cultural theory from a specifically feminist approach, Missero constructs an archival counter-history of Italian cinema that places women, from filmgoers to filmmakers, at the centre.

Congratulations James and Dalila!
