CAHSS Gold Open Access 2026
Seven books received funding from the CAHSS fund for gold open access publication in our last financial year.
"I'm excited, honored and humbled that my book has won!"

We are delighted to share the news that Animating Truth: Documentary and Visual Culture in the 21st Century has won the Norman McLaren/Evelyn Lambart Award for Best Monograph in Animation. The prize was awarded by the Society for Animation Studies.
The book's author, Nea Ehrlich, responded to the news, saying they were "excited, honored and humbled" to have won the award.
About the award
Inaugurated in 1995, this award, administered by the Society for Animation Studies, seeks to celebrate exceptional scholarship, published in book form, in the field of animation studies.
About the book
Confronting shifts in the status and aesthetics of the real, Nea Ehrlich analyses how contemporary technoculture has transformed the relationship of animation to documentary by mapping out two parallel trends: the increased use of animation within documentary or non-fiction contexts, and the increasingly pervasive use of non-photorealistic animation within digital media.
